Trevor Bolt wins the Nicholas Bennett timed tournament
by Nigel Pope on 13/01/10 at 4:21 pm
Despite the country coming to a standstill the snow did not prevent 23 club members from taking part in the annual curtain raiser!
Last years Champion Jason Chaplin found keeping his title hard, in a Difficult Group, that saw Mark Harrop & Karen Weir progress through to the quarter finals. In the other groups Becky Czuczman, Nigel Pope, Shaun Chaplin, Ieu Jones, Simon Green and Trevor bolt made up the final 8.
A tournament favourite Mark Harrop fell to Nigel Pope, who then subsequently ran out of steam against the super fit Ieu Jones who made the final.
His opponent and eventual winner, Trevor Bolt had a tougher passage with matches against Simon Green and Shaun chaplin.
In the 10 minute final Ieu started as favourite after already beating Trevor in the group stages earlier in the day but found the going tougher in pegging back the handicap deficit. Trevor managed to keep a gap between them in a fitting finale game, to what had been a successful tournament.
In the Plate final, just prior to the main event, Justin Tilley and Andy Rolfe had an epic encounter, with just a single point between them as the bell sounded, with Justin hanging on to claim the title 16-15.
Credit and thanks to Martin Rintoul for running proceedings.
